Trace your coffee
Our Ethiopian offering came to us in a unique way, with a story worth telling. It's brought to us by our friends at San Cristobal Coffee Importers who we originally sought out during our search for a very specific Mexican coffee. During their 25 years in business, they have focused on Mexican coffees from the region of Nayarit.
In 2019, San Cristobal hosted an intern on site in Mexico from the Asikana Cooperative in Aria, West Welega, Ethiopia. The purpose of his stay in Mexico was to learn San Cristobal's unique quality control processes and software that would allow him to improve the quality of coffee within his own organization, made up of hundreds of small farmers. Upon his return to Ethiopia he began implementing his findings obtained during his five months in Mexico, while remaining in communication with San Cristobal to facilitate continued learning. All of this resulted in a coffee that would become the cooperatives first export! Until this time, all of their coffee had remained within the country. To bring the relationship full circle, San Cristobal imported this coffee they had helped come to life. With a little luck, our relationship with San Cristobal allowed us to be one of the first roasters to ever purchase this coffee.
Although we are only involved in small piece of this story, it's one that makes us love the relationships that coffee allows and appreciate the possibilities it facilitates.
